American Archaeology Social Media Directory
Introduction
The directory is one of Archaeological Analytics first initiatives in digital archaeology. The campaign was designed to highlight existing archaeological institutions on social media, while encouraging more to adopt digital marketing as an outreach tool. The directory also made it easier for the public to find local professionals if they had questions about finding artifacts on private property, selling artifacts, identifying objects, etc.
Approach
We built the directory and organized listings by state, sub-sector, and social platform. The latter was thought to be the best point of entry for public interest, particularly since most people had a preference for 1 to 2 social accounts in 2017. By creating listicles, we also democratize the visibility of all institutions, regardless of size, followers or location.
Final Word
The directory became a staple for social interactions on American Artifacts Blog as well as a major resource during the 2020 Pandemic year. Best of Open Access Catalogs continues to be the highest searched page for locals and professionals.
